We fully expected the rainy weather when we came to England, and it did not disappoint. When we woke up the next morning after the flight, the sky was gloomy with drizzling rain. We visited the Tower of London in the morning and hurried to King’s Cross railway station to catch a train to Cambridge. After we bought the tickets, we still had about 30 minutes before the next train, so we decided to spend them on restrooms and coffee. Unfortunately, the restrooms at King’s Cross weren’t free and we spent too much time figuring out where to get the coins and how to use the system. As a result, we had to rush to the train without coffee (at least we got to use the restrooms).
After we arrived at Cambridge, we hurried towards downtown (about a 15-minute walk) to get to King’s College before it closes for visitors. When we got there it was already closed, and what’s more, it was closed that whole day because of the preparations for end-of-the-year celebrations (or something like that).
Oh well, we went to the Fitzwilliam Museum instead.
We checked the museum’s cafe and found that they served good coffee and sweets. Finally! The day started to get better.
After coffee we got to go punting. Alex was not familiar with the activity despite the fact that I told him several times about it during past 9 months. What can I say? He doesn’t listen to what I tell him. He says that he just likes to be surprised. And surprised he was when the punting turned out to be just boating on the river Cam.
Most of all in Cambridge, Alex was interested in seeing the Mathematical Bridge (no surprise here considering his occupation). Unfortunately, all of the colleges were closed so we couldn’t walk on the bridge.
Finally, before returning back to London, we found a Starbucks and had more coffee.
In London, we went to a Pizza Express restaurant to relax and eat some normal food. The pizza there is quite good (we knew because we’ve been to one of the Pizza Express restaurants in Glasgow some time before).
