There is little left of Tintagel Castle — just a couple of walls and doorways. I think the main reason tourists flock to the site is the castle’s association with King Arthur. The legend says that he was born there. Most likely it is just that, a legend, but the place itself is fitting — the ruins situated on the wild rocky cliffs of a small peninsula and a tiny island. Unfortunately, the rocks there are not very photogenic — too much ruggedness and too little form (or maybe I just could not find the right spot). Plus, we visited at the worst time possible for taking photos — around noon during the harsh sun hours.<\/p>\n

The remaining ruins are part of a 13th century castle; however, archaeological evidence exists that earlier settlements existed here starting from late Roman period. <\/p>\n
