The city of Bath is a World Heritage site and one of the major tourist destinations in England. We spent an afternoon and a night in Bath, visiting the Roman Baths and walking around the city.
I did not expect the Roman Baths to be so big. Apparently, there was a lot of stuff going on there, not just bathing. The Romans built a kind of an elaborate system with several bathing pools, heated floors, water draining, etc. However, the statues on the top gallery are an 18th century addition.
We spent 2 hours in the Roman Baths (until they closed) but we could have easily spent more time there. We were given audio tour guides (free with the ticket), but I ended up skipping some tour points because we did not have enough time.
After the visit to the Roman Baths, we went to walk around the city of Bath. It is very a very pretty city, full of fine Georgian architecture. For example, the Circus is a roundabout surrounded by three long buildings that curve to make up a complete circle. Likewise, the nearby Royal Crescent is a long curved row of contiguous houses that make up a crescent. They are flanked by a hotel on one end and a museum on the other end. The whole Royal Crescent would not fit on a single picture with any of my lenses, so I had to stitch together a panoramic shot.
