Boscawen-Un Stone Circle

posted in: England | 2

While we were driving from Land’s End to St. Ives, we were passing near a site of another Bronze Age stone circle (there are actually a lot of those in Cornwall). There was no parking, just a small space to pull over. We stopped there and took a short hike to see the Boscawen-Un. The circle is surrounded by a tall hedge and not visible until you find an entrance. When inside, we found a well-preserved stone circle with a center stone standing at an angle like a gnomon in a sundial.

It’s a very peaceful site. We were the only tourists there, so we spent 30 minutes enjoying walking around and trying to solve the mystery of the purpose of the central stone.
